Kitchens can get pretty messy if you don’t have the time to stay on top of them. And nothing seems to build up more quickly than grease on your stove top and stove eyes. Even if you don’t cook that often, grease somehow manages to appear.
However, you don’t want the room you prepare and eat your food in to be covered in spatters and grime. Learn how to remove grease from your stove and its eyes.
If you’ve ever cleaned your stove top before, you know that it can feel like you aren’t ever able to remove the grease. In most cases, that’s just not true! The key is repeating the cleaning process until all the grease is gone. Sometimes, it takes more than one pass. With that in mind, here are the instructions you need to learn how to remove grease from your stove.
Step-by-Step Instructions
-
1Step 1Dampen a microfiber cloth
Dampen your microfiber cloth with hot water. Keep in mind that higher temperatures will help loosen any caked on grease, so warm water won’t work as well here. However, make sure you don’t scald yourself, either.
-
2Step 2Mix in dishwashing liquid
Wipe the stove top with the dampened microfiber cloth. If you’re still finding that the grease won’t come off, it’s time to change the game up a bit. Mix a few drops of dishwashing liquid — preferably a brand known for cutting grease — with your hot water.
Dampen a fresh microfiber cloth with your hot soapy water, and wipe down the stove top. Again, you’ll repeat as necessary. If your microfiber cloth starts looking dingy, replace it with a fresh cloth. After all, you want to clean the grease, not spread it around.
-
3Step 3Make a baking soda paste
If the grease still needs some extra work, mix 1/4 cup baking soda and 1 teaspoon of water into a small bowl. Make a paste and adjust as needed. If the mixture is too thick, add a little more water. If it’s too thin, add more baking soda.
Dip your microfiber cloth into the paste and apply it to affected areas on your stove top.
Scrub the paste with your microfiber cloth.
-
4Step 4Rinse the area
Using a clean damp microfiber cloth, rinse the area until all dishwashing liquid or baking soda residue has been removed.
-
5Step 5Dry the stove top
Dry and buff your stove top with a fresh microfiber cloth.
